Hotel Albrecht under Medusa: when a gastro group opens a hotel

September 18, 2026

After a month-long pause, Bratislava’s Hotel Albrecht is open again — this time under gastro group Medusa. Mid-October brings MINT x Albrecht. For restaurant operators, it’s a lesson in stretching a brand from bistro to hotel.

On Mudroňova Street, between Bratislava Castle and Slavín, stands a villa that once served as a 1920s outing café. Today it is a four-star boutique hotel with twelve rooms — and, since September 2026, a new chapter in Slovak hospitality.

Hotel Albrecht reopened on 1 September after a short technical pause. The new operator of the whole site is gastro group Medusa. This is not just another landlord. It is a restaurant brand stepping into hotels — still an unusual move on the Slovak market.

Three phases, one landmark

The takeover came in stages. In August, Medusa took over the premises and tightened managerial and technical processes while the hotel and restaurant stayed closed. From 1 September the doors opened again. In the second half of October comes what Medusa calls the soul of the project: MINT x Albrecht.

The previous restaurant will give way to an evolution of the MINT concept — all-day dining in a residential neighbourhood, not only a special-occasion evening table. Breakfast, coffee, lunch, dinner, drinks. Hotel guests and neighbours should have the same reason to walk in.

CEO Michal Chudík stressed how quickly the team reopened and that guests should feel the full quality shift especially from October. For operators, the practical lesson is clear: stabilise the house first, then launch the new concept — not the other way around.

Why gastro businesses should care

Bratislavans know MINT from Pradiareň 1900, Ružinov and Karlova Ves. With Albrecht, the concept will have four addresses in the capital; Medusa also runs two MINT venues in Dubai. Hotel Albrecht is no anonymous box on the edge of town — the building is a national cultural monument, converted from a historic café.

Three questions travel well beyond Bratislava:

  1. Can your brand survive outside its “home” atmosphere? An industrial bistro and a hillside villa are different worlds. If a concept only works in one setting, expansion can dilute it.
  2. A hotel is not just another table. Lodging brings breakfast service, night shifts, a different staff rhythm and a different P&L. A gastro group entering hotels changes its operating model — not only the menu.
  3. Phasing lowers risk. August: takeover. September: reopen. October: new concept. Guests know what to expect; the team gets room to breathe.

What to watch this autumn

Until mid-October, Albrecht runs as a hotel with a restaurant under new management. Then MINT x Albrecht arrives. For guests, it will be a new all-day dining address in one of Bratislava’s loveliest corners. For the gastro scene, it is a signal: strong Slovak concepts are no longer thinking only about the next bistro — they are thinking about entire sites.

If you run a restaurant business, the October opening is worth watching not for gossip, but for craft: how a brand settles into a heritage building, how an all-day offer is set, and whether guests start coming regularly — not just once “to try it”.
