Below Slavín the air smells of history and fresh pastry at once. On 15 October 2026, group Medusa opens MINT Albrecht inside the four-star boutique hotel Albrecht on Mudroňova Street. Bratislava gains a fourth MINT. The Slovak gastro map gains something larger: the country’s biggest restaurant player — built on restaurants, bistros and cafés — is now running a full hotel compound.
The building’s owner does not change. Medusa is the operator. And that is the story for anyone who today counts not only the lunch ticket, but how many more hours a guest will still spend in the city.
From dining room to compound
Medusa took over operations at Villa Albrecht in August 2026. It reopened the hotel and restaurant on 1 September; opening MINT now completes the last piece. For a group that already runs dozens of venues in Slovakia, Czechia, Austria and the United Arab Emirates, this is its first real step into hoteliery.
The reason is not romantic. Margins in hospitality are squeezed by wages, inputs and rents. A guest who comes only for one meal spends less than a guest who sleeps, breakfasts, dines and maybe books a hall. Linking the kitchen to lodging and events is a way to pull more value from one address — not necessarily a higher price on the plate.
Prestige that does not guarantee profit
Albrecht is no ordinary site. It is a national cultural monument between the Castle and Slavín, a conversion of an early-twentieth-century excursion café, twelve rooms and apartments with views of the Danube. The building belongs to Tomáš Chrenek; Medusa enters as operator, not as developer.
The previous tenant — Premium Star Hotels from the Across group — ran the villa from autumn 2023 and ended the lease at the end of July 2026. In 2025 the company’s revenue rose by about four percent to more than eight million euros, yet the loss deepened past one million. A prestigious address alone does not print profit. Medusa now inherits exactly the problem its predecessor could not solve.
Group numbers and margin pressure
According to financial-statement data published via FinStat and Valida, Medusa’s 2025 consolidated revenue reached 63.38 million euros — up eleven percent year on year and a historic high. The group employs nearly twelve hundred people and served 3.35 million guests across more than forty venues.
Growing revenue does not mean easier profit. EBITDA around five million euros and the group’s own admission of lower profitability — wages, ramp-up of new sites, inputs, rents — explain why Medusa leans on its own products (craft beer DOCK7, its own bakery) and now on a hotel. Two thirds of growth also came from Dubai, not the home market. The domestic hotel experiment is therefore not decoration; it is a search for a new revenue layer where the brand is most visible.
MINT as the monument’s community engine
Bratislava already knows MINT from Pradiareň 1900, Ružinov and Karlova Ves: craft bistro, bakery, all-day rhythm. At Albrecht it is meant to be more than a hotel restaurant for overnight guests — a meeting place for the neighbourhood and for hotel guests alike.
CEO Michal Chudík calls MINT Albrecht a key element of the compound — the community character of the bistros joined to a national cultural monument. For a smaller owner the practical question is sharp: can my brand survive outside its “own” industrial loft? Can it stay readable inside history, a hotel and a breakfast buffet?
A lesson for owners
First: revenue growth without margin growth pushes even large players into new formats. A hotel is not “another restaurant with rooms”; it is an attempt to sell a guest more hours of the day.
Second: a prestigious location is marketing, not accounting. The predecessor showed that losses can grow even while revenue rises. Whoever takes such an address also takes the duty to change the operating model — not only the logo on the napkins.
Third: a strong restaurant brand can power a hotel’s identity. MINT does not arrive as an anonymous hotel kitchen, but as a named concept. For smaller owners that is a reminder: exporting a brand into someone else’s walls works only when the brand is clear even without the original walls.
Albrecht opens its doors. Medusa is testing whether a restaurant group can not only feed a hotel, but make it pay. The answer will not come from opening day — it will come from the books. For the rest of the scene, one shift is already clear: when the biggest player walks into lodging, the map of “what else can we sell the guest” in Slovakia just moved.
